Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has approved the request of India former skipper MS Dhoni’s request to to train for two-month with the Parachute regiment, top Army sources told ANI. Dhoni is an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Territorial Army.


“The request has now been approved by the Indian Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat and the honorary Lt Col would train with the Parachute regiment battalion,” top Army sources told ANI.

The wicketkeeper-batsman would now train with the Parachute regiment, a part of which is expected to take place in Jammu and Kashmir, ANI sources said.

The Army, however, will not allow Dhoni, who holds an honorary post of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army, to be part of any active operation, sources mentioned.

Amid mounting speculation around his international retirement after India's semi-final exit from the recent World Cup, Dhoni made himself "unavailable" for the tour of West Indies but ruled out immediate retirement a day before the selectors met in Mumbai to pick the squads for the upcoming away series.

The five-wise men - led by M.S.K. Prasad - skipper Virat Kohli physically present in the meeting, announced the Indian squad for three T20Is, three ODIs in Caribbean nations starting from 3 August, followed by two-match Test series which will begin on 22 August.
