Dharamshala: Former India captain Anil Kumble is all set to become head coach of Indian cricket team when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announce the name of the new coach this evening.

“Our attempt is to ensure that the announcement is made on Thursday on the third day of the annual conclave in Dharamsala. We expect to make an announcement in this regard by this evening,” BCCI president Anurag Thakur told the media in Dharamsala.

The three-member BCCI’s cricket advisory panel comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman interviewed candidates shortlisted by the BCCI in Kolkata.

According Wah Cricket sources, former India leg-spinner Kumble is going to be the next head coach of Indian cricket team.

Kumble would have the liberty to choose separate batting, bowling and fielding coaches of his choice after the appointment, sources added.

Out of the ones who were shortlisted, Ravi Shastri and Anil Kumble were the two most high-profile names. While Kumble gave presentation in person, Shastri was interviewed through video conference as he is currently said to be in Thailand.

As per the news reports, Shastri was the frontrunner for the top job. But it has been learnt that Kumble has impressed the advisory committee with his presentation and is now the favourite to take over as the head coach.
