New Delhi: The coronavirus is perhaps the most fearsome global pandemic mankind has witnessed since the deadly Spanish Flu broke out a century back, infecting a quarter of the world population at that time. World Health Bodies and governments are on a war footing mode to combat the spread of this highly contagious virus which has already affected over 500,000 people and killed thousands.
Amidst the world looking for a way out to fight COVID19, former Pakistan cricketing great and noted gangster Dawood Ibrahim's relative Javed Miandad has come out with a major revealation that he was going through a peculiar disease in the 1992 Cricket World Cup final against England, which he terms as a 'virus'.
Pakistan which won their maiden World Cup title in 1992 completed 28 years of their cricketing history's most glorious achievement recently on March 25. Speaking at the 28th anniversary of Pakistan's only ODI World Cup triumph, Miandad on his own YouTube video, revealed that he was infected with a virus that made him sweat and consume all of his energy while he was batting.
The former Pakistan batsman added that he had no idea about the virus even after consulting doctors.
“I couldn’t understand what exactly my problem was. I was infected with some peculiar virus because of which I used sweat a lot. I even consulted doctors but my condition towards the end of our innings in the final was such that I couldn’t play a shot, I was just standing there. At the other end, I had Imran (Khan). We forged a partnership and batted the full 50 overs to put up a respectable score,” Miandad said.
Javed Miandad said that when he looks back at the video clippings of that final vs England in 1992, he still can’t understand how they ended up winning that World Cup. Javed Miandad added that when they were batting, they were losing wickets early and his only aim was to just stand there and not lose his wicket.
Javed Miandad went on to praise his collegue and World Cup winning skipper Imran Khan for instilling the belief in the team that they had it in them to win the World Cup. He added that Imran Khan had a T-shirt with a tiger on it which he used to wear even in practice. He further said that Imran Khan used to tell them that it was their symbol and they will fight like a tiger.
