New Delhi: Soon after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that it will donate a sum of Rs 51 crore to the PM's CARES Fund to contribute in government's effort to fight against the deadly Coronavirus outbreak in the country, Twitter came down hard on the cricketing board asking it to show some generosity.

Aggrieved nitizens across the country took to micro-blogging site Twitter and started trolling world's richest sporting body for donating such small amount towards a severe medical emergency that has infected over 1,000 people and costed lives of at least 19 in the country so far.

BCCI on Saturday decided to contribute Rs 51 crore to the Prime Ministers Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund as the government fights against the coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking to IANS, a BCCI official said that it was Secretary Jay Shah who got everyone together and had a word with the other office bearers as well as the state associations to decide on the way forward to help the country in the fight against the pandemic.

However, it was also noted that the BCCI was already under considerable condemnation for not doing its bit to fight the outbreak of Coronavirus. But soon after the cricketing body announced about the donation, things turned bitter.

Here's how Twitteratis reacted to BCCI's donation of Rs 51 crore for Coronavirus outbreak:

The BCCI's biggest flagship tournament Indian Premier League has been postponed till April 15 but in prevailing circumstances, chances are that it may be cancelled. With Pondicherry and Hyderabad already offering their stadiums for creating isolation wards, the BCCI has assured its support to the state machinery.
