India Boxer Nikhat Zareen Wins Gold Medal CWG 2022: Indian star boxer Nikhat Zareen continues her domination with yet another remarkable performance against Northern Ireland's Carly McNaul to bag gold in 48-50 Kg flyweight category at Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Saturday.
This is India's fourth gold medal of the day and 17th overall in Birmingham. After Nikhat's gold win, India has moved past New Zealand to the fourth position in the overall medal tally. Star Indian boxer Amit Panghal avenged his previous CWG edition's final loss in the men's flyweight category to win gold, while Neetu Ghanghas dominated in her CWG debut to claim gold. Panghal (48-51kg) had lost four years ago to his English rival in the Gold Coast, but this time the 26-year-old avenged his loss by beating England's McDonald Kieran 5-0.
Annu Rani wins bronze at Commonwealth Games 2022 in javelin throw
India's Annu Rani scripted history by winning a bronze medal in the javelin throw event of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Sunday, becoming the first woman javelin thrower in the country to achieve the big feat. Rani finished third in her fourth attempt by throwing a javelin 60 meters away to win a bronze medal for India. World champion Kelsey-Lee Barber of Australia won the gold with a throw of 64.43m while her compatriot Mackenzie Little came second with a throw of 64.27m
Prior to Rani, Commonwealth Games champion Kashinath Nayak and Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra have won bronze and gold medals respectively in men's javelin throw. Nayak won medals at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games while Chopra won medals at the 2018 Gold Coast.
