Rio de Janeiro: The Copa America Final is just around the corner. Two of football world's celebrated teams -Brazil and Argentina - will face each other in the final of the coveted event. The final will be played at Estadio de Maracana in Brazil. Even though the final is between the two South American countries, it is bound to have a great impact on the state of Kerala.
The football-crazy southern state of Kerala is geared up to watch two of their favourite teams go against each other in the final of Copa America 2021. Anyone who hails from Kerala knows that every person has a favourite team and it is either Argentina or Brazil. Finding public posters in open areas during Football World Cup and Copa America is a common sight in Kerala. Right from the times of Maradona vs Pele to Juan Riquelme vs Ronaldinho and now Messi vs Neymar, the rivalry is celebrated in Kerala for a long time. (even before colour television existed)
Brazil and Argentina are two massive footballing nations and the players understand it as well. Maradona and Pele have visited Kerala on multiple occasions for some or the other thing. The Hindu recently reported a story of a father-son duo who support Argentina and Brazil respectively, thus they have painted their house in two halves. One side of the house is painted in Brazillian colours while the other in Argentine colours.
“Being a Neymar Jr. fan, me and my brother did not want to be outdone by our father and began painting the wall yellow and green as soon as he finished the Argentina flag”, Jomon (the son who supports Brazil) said to Hindu when asked about painting their house in such a unique manner.
