New Delhi: Just two hours after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the Pakistan Cricket team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, head coach Misbah Ul Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis resigned from their roles.

ICC Men's T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played  in Oman and UAE from October 17 to November 14. In the high-profile tournament, Virat Kohli-led India will play its first match against arch-rivals Pakistan on October24.

Former Pakistani cricketer and popular commentator Rameez Raja was recently appointed as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman. Reacting to the sudden turn of events in Pakistan cricket, Akhtar slammed both Misbah and Waqar for quitting from their respective roles ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Akhtar feels that the newly-appointed PCB chairman would not have spared both Waqar and Misbah for Pakistan's poor performance.  The legendary speedster even went on to compare the situation of Misbah and Younis quitting to that of Taliban and United States of America.

“I think what happened here [Waqar, Misbah’s resignations] is similar to what the Taliban did to the American forces. I think they knew that Ramiz Raja would not spare them hence they decided to leave,” said Akhtar as quoted by geo tv.

“Whether he is a good man or a bad man. He can be the world’s fastest bowler for that matter but in the end, he will get exposed. I think both of them exposed themselves by running. If the PCB wanted to sack you then you should have let them. You should have put in 100% for the World Cup and then [resigned]. But what can a coward do, except running away.? added Akhtar.
