The world number one, Novak Djokovic of Serbia and the current ATP Champion Daniil Medvedev will go head to head at the Australian Open final on Sunday. The Russian ace Medvedev has been in his prime form in the recent past. He defeated Djokovic at the 2020 ATP final and also defeated Nadal and Thiem in the same year. The 25-yea old is coming in the match after defeating Stefanos Tsistsipas by 6-4, 6-2, 7-5. Tsitsipas had defeated Nadal in the QF, thus it would have been a big mental win for Medvedev.

The Russian looks in full confidence as he also defeated Novak in the ATP finals last year. But he downplayed his chances by saying that he has nothing to lose against Djokovic. He said “Djokovic is the favorite because… (in the) eight occasions that he was in the semi-finals, he won the tournament… I'm the challenger, the guy that challenges the guy who was eight times in the final and won eight times. I'm happy about it.”

If Medvedev manages to defeat Djokovic, it will be his first grand slam title. His previous best was when he was the runners up in the US Open Final against Rafael Nadal in 2019. Djokovic on the other hand will be contesting for his 18th grand-slam title.
