The Delhi Police recently released a circular highlighting what their personnel should observe carefully to ensure they can identify robbers and snatchers. Police personnel have been directed to keep a close eye on any person with an ‘ectomorph’ body type, and bikers riding a specific type of bike, according to a report in The Indian Express. If the bike is in a dilapidated condition but is a high-end one, and the driver is not wearing a helmet and riding it in a zig-zag manner, they must be considered red flags, the report said.

What Is An Ectomorph Body Type?

A person with narrow shoulders and hips with respect to the height, and a low mass percentage is said to have an ectomorph body type. Ectomorphs are tall and slim, and have fast metabolism and tend to lose weight easily. They have more difficulty building muscle, according to an article on health and wellness website tuasade.com.

They are slightly taller than people with average heights. Also, women with an ectomorph body type have narrower hips and smaller breasts.

People with an ectomorph body type have relatively smaller muscles with respect to bone length, and are unable to gain mass because of their naturally fast metabolism. When the body mass index (BMI) of a person with an ectomorph body type is less than or equal to 17, it could be indicative of an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia. Anorexia is an eating disorder characterised by an abnormally low body weight, distorted body image, and an intense fear of gaining weight. Bulimia is a potentially life-threatening eating disorder in which a person secretly consumes large amounts of food with a loss of control over the eating, and then vomits to avoid weight gain.

People with an ectomorph body type are advised to exercise properly and have a balanced diet to overcome the structural and metabolic challenges associated with the condition.

If they want to build muscles, their calorie intake should mostly come from carbs and at least 25 percent from protein, according to an article on medicinenet.com.

What Are The Other Body Types?

Apart from ectomorph, there are two other body types — endomorph and mesomorph.

If someone is simply unable to shed fat, they probably have the body type categorised as endomorphic. Such people tend to gain weight faster and look curvy, according to the medicinenet.com article. Those with endomorphic body type have a triangular bone structure, broader shoulders, narrower hips and shorter limbs. They usually have a pear-shaped appearance because they tend to store excess weight in their thighs, buttocks and hips. A combination of regular exercise and healthy eating is advised to this kind of body type.

Their diet should have only 30 percent of total daily calories, and the rest of the 70 percent should come from protein and good fats.

The mesomorph body type is considered the ideal. Those with such body type usually look lighter. They have a rectangular bone structure, thinner bones, longer limbs and flat ribcage.

People with mesomorphic built has a natural tendency to stay fit, and they achieve muscle mass very easily. They are usually neither overweight nor underweight.
