Karnataka has issued a ban on the use of Rhodamine B in food items such as cotton candy and Gobi Manchurian. While the colour makes cotton candy appear vibrant, the agent is potentially hazardous.
Rhodamine B is a bright pink artificial food colouring agent often added to cotton candy. Due to its colour, the agent is commonly known as Brilliant Pink B. While the colour makes cotton candy appear vibrant, the agent is potentially toxic and hazardous. This is because recent evidence has indicated that Rhodamine B could potentially have carcinogenic properties, and lead to DNA damage. Hence, Karnataka has issued a ban on the use of this agent in food items such as cotton candy and Gobi
