There are over 5,500 rare diseases, according to the International Classification of Diseases, which provides information on health-related conditions. Rare diseases impact a small percentage of the population, and are also known as orphan diseases in some parts of the world. Some examples of rare diseases are Trisomy X, Klinefelter Syndrome, Thalassaemia, Aplastic Anaemia, Sickle Cell Disease, and Guillain-Barre Syndrome, among others.
