Webb's image of NGC 628 shows dust glowing in infrared light because dust absorbs ultraviolet and visible light, and re-emits them in infrared wavelengths, which the telescope can detect. Hubble can only detect ultraviolet and visible light, and hence, its images have dark regions. ( Image Source :NASA )
NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, also called Webb, has captured breathtaking images of 19 nearby spiral galaxies. Scientists used Webb to observe these galaxies in near- and mid-infrared light, as part of the Physics at High Angular resolution in Nearby GalaxieS (PHANGS) programme, which is supported by over 150 astronomers worldwide, and includes images of the same galaxies captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array, and the Very Large Telescope's
