Delhi And Patna Were Most Polluted Indian Cities In 2023, Silchar Had Cleanest Air: National Clean Air Programme

The analysis has shown that between 2019 and 2023, Varanasi exhibited the most significant decrease in PM2.5 and PM10 levels. There was a 73 per cent reduction in PM2.5, and 69 per cent in PM10.

Delhi and Patna were the most polluted Indian cities in 2023. Meanwhile, Silchar had the cleanest air, an analysis of air pollution in 131 non-attainment cities, conducted by the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), has revealed. Cities are classified as non-attainment if they consistently do not meet the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for PM10 or nitrogen dioxide (NO2) over a five-year period.  The NCAP was launched by the Centre on January 10, 2019, to address air
