2 days before 1st match, Daredevils captain Gambhir talks about retirement

Delhi start their IPL campaign against Kings XI Punjab on April 8.

The Daredevils are yet to win the IPL but Gambhir is confident of that their current side has all the abilities to become the champions.

Gambhir had started his IPL career with the Daredevils and spent three seasons with them before being picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011.

Addressing the press ahead of the IPL, Gambhir said he would draw curtains on his IPL career after leading Delhi to its maiden title.

“Not many have the opportunity to finish where they had started. But I feel, I’m one of those lucky ones. I would want to go on a high and call it a day but not before giving Delhi its first IPL title,” said Gambhir.

But trust Gambhir to always call a spade a spade. Acknowledging the fact he has reached the twilight of his career, the 36-year-old Daredevils skipper talked about retirement for the first time in his career.

Delhi Daredevils picked him up in the auctions on his base price (2 crore) and appointed him as their leader, putting the debate to rest.

Gambhir’s international career may have been on a never-ending roller coaster ride, but he has been a force to reckon with in the IPL. Perhaps that’s why KKR’s decision to let Gambhir go raised question marks on the left-hander’s career.
