Both the first and second installments of the film have been directed by Mani Ratnam. In the second part also, the film will keep focusing on Arulmozhi Varman on his road to become Rajaraja Chola I, the Chola empire's greatest emperor. Additionally, the second part is also expected to focus on the flashback story of Vikram aka Aditya Karikalan and it will also show the relationship between Ponniyin Selvan and Oomai Rani, played by Aishwarya.
