A trap set up in a Uttar Pradesh village to nab a leopard threw up a surprise catch. Instead of the big cat, a man was found trapped inside the large metal cage installed at the Basendua village of Bulandshahr district, reported news agency ANI.

According to the forest department officials, the man had entered the cage to get a rooster that was kept there as bait for the leopard.

"We set up the cage to trap to leopard after we got information the animal has been wandering around. We searched for the leopard for some time before we decided to set up the cage," said Forest Department officer Radheshyam to ANI.

In the 10 second video shared on Twitter by news agency ANI, a man wearing a white shirt can be be seen trapped inside the green coloured metal cage. He is also heard pleading with the forest officials to get him out. Some onlookers are also heard interacting with the man out of inquisitiveness.

"There was a rooster in the cage. When the man entered and caught the rooster, the cage got shut. He was freed almost immediately," said Radheshyam to ANI.
