A public toilet in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district is in news for a strange reason. A photograph of a washroom from the district has gone viral on social media in which one can see two toilet seats in one enclosure without any partition. The toilet complex built in Gaura Dhundha village of Basti district cost the state government Rs 10 lakh, according to the post shared on the micro-blogging site Twitter.
Some toilet enclosures have two seats without partition, while others don't even have a door due to which people do not use the community toilet.
The photograph of the community toilet was shared on the micro-blogging site Twitter by @ranvijaylive with the caption, "There is a lot of discussion about this community toilet in Basti district. Made two seats together, there is no door either. The cost is said to be 10 lakhs."
After the matter came to light, District Panchayat Raj Officer Namrata Sharan sent a notice to the concerned officer asking why the the toilet enclosures at the complex did not have doors or partitions, reported NDTV.
She also said that the community toilet would be fixed soon and she herself would visit the place to investigate the condition of the toilet.
After seeing the post of the toilet shared on twitter, a user wrote, "When you sit on those it takes you down to a underground chamber can't you see the surrounding gap..."
