A two-year-old female Chihuahua has been declared the world’s smallest dog by Guinness World Record (GWR). Pearl, who was born on September 1, 2020, measures 9.14 cm (3.59 in) in height and 12.7 cm (5.0 in) in length, which means she is almost the same length as a dollar note and shorter than a popsicle. She only weighs 553 g (1.22 lb).

According to GWR, Pearl is a relative of the previous record holder, Miracle Milly (9.65 cm; 3.8 in), who passed away in 2020 before her birth. Pearl is the daughter of one of Milly’s identical sisters.

Pearl was recently introduced on the Lo Show Dei Record by her owner Vanesa Semler who said, "We’re blessed to have her and to have this unique opportunity to break our own record and share with the world this amazing news."

While being introduced on the show, Pearl was carried onto the stage by Vanesa in an opulent Easter egg-shaped seat, receiving rapturous applause.

Taking to the show's host Gerry Scotti, The owner said pearl enjoys eating high-quality food like chicken and salmon, and loves "dressing up nice."

According to GWR, to announce the record of world's shortest Chihuahua, Pearl was measured three times at different intervals at the same hospital, Crystal Creek Animal Hospital in Orlando.

A dog measuring wicket was used by her vet Dr Giovanni Vergel to accurately determine the height.

Keeping in compliance with the rules of Guinness World Record , each measurement was taken from the base of the front leg foot up to the top of the withers (the ridge between the shoulder blades) in a straight vertical line.

Vanesa has three other dogs, but they are all “normal” sizes.
