New Delhi: The Northern part of Chhattisgarh is famous for its tourist spots. The serene lakes that can be visited include Rajpuri of Jashpur, Tatapani of Balrampur and Maunpaat of Surguja. However, now a lake in Surguja is catching everyone’s attention for a different reason. The water of this lake changes colour every morning and evening.

It is hard to believe, yet no one has been able to identify the reason for this phenomenon which has been feeding people’s curiosity lately. People are coming to see the lake from far off places in their efforts to know the reason for this colour change.

There is a village named Barganva near the 15 km stretch between the Surguja in district Ambikapur and Maunpaat lake. In this village, there is a lake which has become a centre for attraction for many as the colour of the water in this lake changes from morning to evening.

According to Baldev Singh from Parsapali village, the colour of the water is red in the morning and changes to green in the evening. While no one knows the answer to the questions that are raised by this phenomenon, people are coming to visit this lake from far off villages.

It still remains a mystery why the colour is changing with the day. There can be many speculations from chemical reactions to an unexplained natural phenomenon. Or if it can be only an optical illusion that remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, it is interesting to know that there are many mysterious things in Surguja that have not been resolved by scientists. One of them is the Thinthini rock which gives out different sounds when tapped.

Besides, there is a place in Maunpaat’s Bisarpani where the water stream flows upwards. There is also a place where jumping at one place makes the land move in Maunpaat.
