Guwahati: Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Monday exuded confidence that the Central government would soon find an "amicable solution" to the long-pending issues of the indigenous people of Tripura.
Speaking exclusively to ABP Live on his recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Tripura on the sidelines of the oath-taking ceremony of the BJP-led government, Debbarma said, "We had a discussion, not regarding any specific issue, but regarding a ‘constitutional solution’ of the tribal people of Tripura."
"We met on the overall improvement of the future of the community. The issue is not of a greater Modiland or greater Tipraland, the issue is what we will do to protect the future of the life of the indigenous people of the state," Debbarma said.
The scion of the former royal family of Tripura said the Centre would appoint an interlocutor for the process.
"In the meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured us that he will appoint an interlocutor very soon, within a time frame, to have an amicable solution to the issues of the tribal community of Tripura," Debbarma said.
Last week, Amit Shah held discussions with Debbarma in the presence of BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda over several issues being faced by the tribal community of the state.
However, a day after the meeting, state Chief Minister Manik Saha asserted that the BJP-led government would never support demands like 'Tipraland' or 'Greater Tipraland.’
The Tipra Motha, a regional party floated by Debbarma in 2019, banking on the 'Greater Tipraland' demand, contested the recently held Assembly elections and emerged as the second largest party, winning 13 of the 42 seats it contested in the 60-member House.
