Nationalist Congress Party MP from the Sharad Pawar camp, Supriya Sule on Tuesday welcomed the statement by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat over the situation in Manipur. The RSS chief had expressed his deep concern over the continuing violence in the North Eastern state and urged immedidate and prioritised action.

Sule welcomed Bhagwat's remark saying suffering of the people in the state is extremely disturbing.

"I welcome his statement because Manipur is part of India. And when we see our people suffering so much, it is extremely disturbing for all of us. This is something we have been demanding, INDIA alliance has been demanding for a long time that let's have a discussion," Sule said, speaking to news agency ANI.

"Let's form a good committee with all parties. Let's give confidence to Manipur. Everything doesn't get solved with a gun...," she added.

On Monday, Bhagwat addressed a gathering of RSS trainees at the conclusion of the organisation's 'Karyakarta Vikas Varg- Dwitiya' programme at the Dr Hedgewar Smriti Bhavan in Nagpur. During the address, he highlighted the need to move beyond election rhetoric and concentrate on pressing national issues.

The RSS chief said that Manipur has been waiting for peace for the last one year. "There was peace in Manipur 10 years ago, it felt like gun culture had finished there. But the state has suddenly seen violence," he added.

The ethnic violence in Manipur between Meiteis and tribal Kukis has spanned over a year over inclusion of Meiteis in the Scheduled Tribes list. As many as 200 people have been killed in the violence while thousands have been displaced. Last week, a fresh spell of violence marred the state's Jiribam district.
