'State, Centre Controlled Violence To Great Extent': Manipur CM N Biren Singh After Meeting Amit Shah

Manipur CM N Biren Singh meets Amit Shah a day after the latter chaired an all-party meeting on Manipur unrest. The CM apprised the HM of present situation in the northeastern state.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital and briefed him about the ground situation in the state. The meeting comes up a day after Shah chaired an all-party meeting on the prevailing unrest in the northeastern stated. After the meeting, Singh tweeted a photo of him with Shah and said that under the close supervision of the latter, the State and Central government have been able to control the violence to a great extent in the past week

"Called on Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri @AmitShah Ji in New Delhi today and briefed about the evolving situation on the ground in Manipur. Under Amit Shah Ji’s close supervision, the State and Central Govt have been able to control the violence to a great extent in the past week. It may be noted that there has been no report of casualties due to the violence since the 13th of June," the CM tweeted.

He added that Shah has assured all possible help from the Central government to bring normalcy to Manipur. He said, "Hon’ble Union HM has assured that the central government will take all possible steps to bring normalcy in Manipur."

"Further, Amit Shah Ji advised us to strengthen our work towards achieving everlasting peace and also sought the cooperation of every stakeholders in Manipur to ensure that peace prevails in the State," Singh added.

He further said that he was joined by BJP National Spokesperson Sambit Patra and Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba and Hon’ble Speaker Th Satyabrata Singh.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the government of Manipur extended the internet ban in the state for a period of five days till 3 PM on June 30 to prevent any disturbances of peace and public order in the jurisdiction of the State. 

Stand-off between a mob led by women and security forces came to an end after the Army took a “mature decision” to not risk civilians and left with seized weapons and ammunition, officials said on Sunday. The stand-off stemmed after a dozen members of KYKL militant group were hiding in Imphal East’s Itham village following which the security forces had cordoned off the area. Meanwhile, Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday told an all-party meeting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been continuously monitoring the situation in strife-torn Manipur, as per PTI report.
