Guwahati: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), between the Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) and the Assam Rifles, was signed at the RRU in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on Monday. The MoU was signed by Vice Chancellor (VC) of RRU Bimal N Patel on behalf of the RRU and Director General (DG) of Assam Rifles Lt Gen PC Nair signed on behalf of the Assam Rifles.


The MoU will accredit the academic and training programme of the Assam Rifles and provide certification to various courses which will facilitate training in undertaking studies, dissertations, and doctoral research as per university guidelines and encourage joint research initiatives, faculty exchange, and collaborative projects that will benefit both the entities, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) stated in a press release.


Speaking on the occasion, Assam Rifles DG Lt Gen Nair said, “The synergy between our force’s practical experience and the academic rigour of the RRU is poised to create a holistic learning environment that nurtures both character and competence."


"Over the years, Assam Rifles has achieved remarkable milestones in training, demonstrating unwavering dedication and resilience. The essence of our success lies not only in the valour of our personnel but also in the quality of education and training they receive. We take pride in the rigorous training programmes that instill discipline, resilience, and a sense of duty,” he added.


Earlier, VC of RRU Patel said that the university looks forward to learning from the long operational experiences and people-centric developmental programmes that the Assam Rifles has been undertaking over the decades in the northeast and these would be converted into case studies for RRU which in turn could then be incorporated in the studies of the multiple faculties of the university, the MHA release added.


The Rashtriya Raksha University, under the MHA, is an institution of national importance. The university is a pioneer national security and police university in the country. On the other hand, the Assam Rifles is a Central paramilitary force under the MHA.


The Assam Rifles is responsible for border security of the Indo-Myanmar borders and counter-insurgency, the MHA release further stated.
