As torrential rains following cyclone Remal caused a massive flash flood in Manipur, security forces have been deployed for internal security and have swiftly responded by providing immediate relief and support to affected citizens.
According to the PTI, in the Imphal East district, the Barak River at Chotabekra is at 30.15 metres, 3.95 metres above its danger level, the Central Water Commission (CWC) data stated.
As per All India Radio (AIR), three people have died in different flood-related incidents so far, while one person is missing. The forces have successfully rescued over 4000 individuals from affected areas in Manipur, including over 1500 women and 800 children.
Security forces have been engaged in rescue work, and affected families have been taking shelter in relief camps. The Army medical teams have provided treatment to 102 individuals, including 55 women, and 24 children, as per ANI.
On Thursday, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh chaired a meeting with ministers, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, security officials, and all department officials to review the flood situation in the state. Manipur Chief Minister said that the NDRF, Indian Army, and Assam Rifles, along with local authorities, are carrying out rescue operations and saving people from various flood-hit areas of the state.
Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in parts of Manipur, including Imphal, where two overflowing rivers have inundated several areas. This occurred after cyclone Remal triggered continuous rainfall in the state.
