Guwahati: Flood situation in Assam deteriorated further on Monday as incessant rains pounded several parts of Upper Assam. The deluge has affected a total of 1,90,675 people in 522 villages and 42 revenue circles across 17 districts of the state. The floods claimed the life of one more person in Sivasagar district on Monday. The districts that have been affected by floods are Biswanath, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, and Udalguri.
Lakhimpur is the worst-hit district where 47,338 people have been affected followed by Dhemaji (40,997), Golaghat (27,869), Sivasagar (21,435), Sonitpur (21,435), and Dibrugarh (13,425).
On the other hand, over 8,086 hectares of cropland have been inundated by flood water.
Authorities have opened 47 relief camps in Chirang (6), Dhemaji (17), Lakhimpur (6), and Sonitpur (18) districts where 427 people have been taking shelter. Moreover, 45 relief distribution centres have also been functioning in these districts which are providing relief materials to the flood-affected people.
Several roads, bridges, embankments, and other infrastructures have been damaged in Biswanath, Darrang, Udalguri, Chirang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Dhubri, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Sonitpur, Tamulpur and Udalguri districts. Severe erosion has also been reported in Barpeta, Biswanath, Dhubri, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, and Udalguri districts.
Altogether, 1,30,514 livestock and poultry have also been affected by the deluge.
Apart from personnel of the respective district administration, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is working round the clock to extend help to the affected people.
River Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level mark at Dibrugarh, Dhubri, Tezpur, Neamatighat in Jorhat, while river Beki is flowing above the danger level mark at Barpeta’s Road Bridge, river Jia-Bharali at Nalbari’s Nt Road Crossing, river Disang at Sivasagar’s Nanglamuraghat, river Dikhou at Sivasagar and river Subansiri at Lakhimpur district’s Badatighat.
