In 2001, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations established June 1 as World Milk Day to acknowledge the significance of milk as a global food.

Community groups, dairy producers, farmers, dairy manufacturers, health organisations, dairy retailers, dairy researchers, agricultural societies, schools, universities, and families are among those who can host campaigns promoting the dairy industry on World Milk Day.
On World Milk Day, people can start a Twitter chat about dairy, organise a photo contest to select the most photogenic dairy cow, create videos of dairy farmers and cows, and participate in a recipe contest.

This year, the theme for World Milk Day is 'Dairy Net Zero'. The theme will highlight the work already being done to accelerate climate action and help reduce the dairy sector's impact on the planet, according to worldmilkday.org.
People can use the World Milk Day platform to raise awareness of the messaging and action towards Dairy Net Zero.

This year, the celebration for World Milk Day started with the 'Enjoy Dairy Rally' from May 29 through May 31.
