United States Vice President Kamala Harris has vowed to take down Donald Trump after Joe Biden announced the withdrawal of his candidature from the presidential race. In a surprise announcement on Sunday night, Biden said he had decided not to accept the nomination and endorsed Harris as the Democrat nominee.

Harris honoured the President's nomination and vowed to do everything in her power to unite Democrats and defeat Donald Trump and his "extreme" Project 2025.

"On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and his decades of service to our country," Harris said in a post on X.

"I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination," she said.

"I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda," said the Vice President.

Biden's (81) decision to step down from the presidential race comes among concerns of his growing age and after weeks of intense pressure from fellow democrats following his presidential debate debacle against Republican rival Trump last month.

While Biden's endorsement almost seals her position as the presidential nominee of her party, she still would have to face the elections at the Democratic National Convention to get elected by her party's delegates in Chicago next month.
