Afridi has recently been courting quite a lot of controversial comments on Kashmir and India’s governance. In a recent statement, Afridi had said that the citizens of India are being oppressed. He had also created an uproar in social media when he tweeted about Kashmir with the hashtag #SaveKashmir. In the tweet, Afridi wrote
‘It does not take a religious belief to feel the agony of Kashmiris..just a right heart at the right place. #SaveKashmir’.
Cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir had slammed Afridi for his comments. After the spat escalated in social media Pakistan cricket team's bowling coach Waqar Younis stepped in asked the two cricketers to ‘calm down’. He said that the banter between the two cricketers has been distasteful and deplorable. Waqar said during the chat show 'Q20' on GloFans' twitter handle.
"In social media, if you carry on (like) that, people are going to love it and people are enjoying it and that I feel that they both should be sensible and smart.
According to a report by PTI Afridi played for Pakistan between 1998 and 2018, featuring in 27 Tests, 398 ODIs and 99 T20 Internationals.
