Canada-based Khalistan sympathiser Hardeep Singh Nijjar has been shot dead in the parking lot of Surrey Gurdwara Sahib in Brampton. He was involved in anti-India activities for a long time and had also organised a separatist referendum in Brampton. Nijjar was the president of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in the Surrey City and was associated with the separatist organisation, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), which is banned in India.

Nijjar was a declared terrorist by the Government of India and was wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He had many pending cases against him in India.

Notably, NIA had earlier filed a charge sheet against Nijjar for allegedly conspiring to carry out terror attacks. IANS reported that India had also asked Canadian authorities to take action against him for being allegedly involved in terrorist acts in Punjab.

Last week on Thursday, Avtar Singh Khanda, the main accused of the March 19 attack on the Indian High Commission in London and the self-styled chief of designated terror outfit Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF), reportedly died in Sandwell Hospital in UK’s Birmingham. On March 19, the pro-Khalistan protester in London scaled the balcony of the Indian High Commission and removed the Indian flag. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is currently probing the case and has released photos of suspects as well as CCTV footage in this regard.

Khanda, also known as Ranjodh Singh, sought political asylum in the United Kingdom. He was instrumental in radicalising the Sikh youth towards the separatist movement for an independent Sikh nation of ‘Khalistan’, an HT report mentioned.

He along with three other separatists were identified by the NIA as the main accused for insulting the Indian flag at the London High Commission during an orchestrated protest on March 19.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday released the photographs of suspects involved in the violent protest at the Indian high commission in London by Khalistan supporters who "caused grievous injury and disrespected the Indian National Flag". The images come after the central agency released more than two hours of CCTV video of the attempted vandalism. On March 19, a pro-Khalistan protester in London scaled the balcony of the Indian High Commission and removed the Indian flag. The NIA has taken over the case from the special cell of the Delhi Police.

“REQUEST FOR IDENTIFICATION/INFORMATION. On 19.03.23 these persons were involved in an attack on the High Commission of India, London. They caused grievous injury and disrespected the Indian National Flag. If anyone has any information about them, please Whatsapp/DM @+917290009373,” the NIA stated, sharing photos of the suspects in a long Twitter thread.
