Nepal MP Chandra Bhandari is undergoing treatment after suffering burn injuries in a blast due to an LPG cylinder leak, however, his mother succumbed to her injuries at Nepal's Kirtipur Burns Hospital.


His mother suffered 80 per cent burns while he sustained 25 per cent burns. They were admitted to the hospital in critical condition and were to be airlifted to Mumbai for further treatment according to a statement by Kirtipur Hospital.


Bhandari and his mother were injured on Wednesday after a cooking gas cylinder exploded at their house in Buddhanagar, Kathmandu at 10:30 pm (local time), according to The Kathmandu Post.


Kirtipur Hospital had earlier in a statement said the duo needed to be taken to a hospital specialised in burns outside the country as treatment in Nepal isn't possible.


The LPG gas cylinder exploded while the family was sleeping, according to Bhandari’s personal secretary, Bhuwan Bhusal, as reported by news agency ANI.


In the year 2020, eight tourists from Kerala suffocated to death in Nepal probably due to a gas leak from a heater in their room in the Makwanpur district. The tourists were airlifted to HAMS hospital here where they were pronounced dead on arrival.


Couple, 4 Children Dead In Fire Due To Cylinder Leak In Haryana


Earlier in January, a family of six members in Haryana's Panipat died in a house fire caused by a cooking gas cylinder leakage on Thursday. The incident took place in the Tehsil Camp area near Bichpari village of Panipat district. As per the police, the house caught fire due to a cylinder leak and the family, which lived in a residential area of the city, had migrated from West Bengal.


The dead included a couple and their four children, news agency PTI reported the police as informing. The victims have been identified as Abdul, 45, his 40-year-old wife, their two daughters aged 18 and 16, and two sons, aged 12 and 10.


"Six have died in this incident. The dead include a couple and their two children," Inspector Phool Kumar, SHO at Tehsil Camp Police Station in Panipat, told PTI.
