New Delhi: An armed man opened fire in a kindergarten in Russia's Ulyanovsk region on Tuesday, leaving at least four people dead, Interfax news agency reported.


"We confirm the shooting and that there are four bodies," a representative of regional authorities said. The shooter later committed suicide, according to reports.


Meanwhile, a source in law enforcement told news agency TASS that two children were killed in the attack. Reports also claim that the gunman was armed with an Izh-27 double-barreled shotgun.


Reportedly, the local authorities were struggling to identify the gunman due to his injuries. Speaking to news agency AFP, Dmitry Kamal, the head of the Ulyanovsk region's information department said that investigators were working at the scene to establish further information. Officials believe that the shooting may have been the result of a 'domestic conflict'.


The former governor of the region Sergei Morozov informed news agency RIA Novosti that a young teacher was killed in the attack and another injured, while the two killed children were born in 2016 and 2018
