Israel on Monday said it was ready to initiate a desalination programme in Lakshadweep following a visit by its team to the picturesque archipelago last year. The Israel Embassy in India posed about the visit and expressed its eagerness to commence work on the project promptly. In a post on X, the Israel Embassy stated, "We were in #Lakshadweep last year upon the federal government's request to initiate the desalination program. Israel is ready to commence working on this project tomorrow."


The embassy also shared captivating images and a video showcasing the mesmerizing beauty of the Lakshadweep Islands.



The desalination initiative comes as a response to the Indian government's invitation for collaboration, underlining the growing ties between India and Israel in various sectors, according to the Embassy's post.

Meanwhile, online travel company Make My Trip revealed a staggering 3,400 per cent surge in on-platform searches for Lakshadweep following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to the region. The Prime Minister's overnight stay, beach visits, and participation in adventure activities ignited widespread interest in Lakshadweep among potential tourists.



The increased attention on Lakshadweep also led to a diplomatic row with Maldives, where three deputy ministers made disparaging remarks about PM Modi's visit. In a swift response, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu suspended the ministers involved and distanced the government from their comments. Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer emphasised that such remarks are "unacceptable" and do not represent the official stance of the Maldives government.



PM Modi's visit to Lakshadweep on January 2 generated considerable support from citizens, including cricketers and film celebrities, who expressed eagerness in promoting local beach destinations. In a series of posts on 'X', PM Modi shared pictures of the pristine landscapes, encouraging adventure enthusiasts to include Lakshadweep in their travel plans.
