Unfounded Bomb Threats Made At Ivy League Campuses: US Law Enforcement Officials

Aside from Brown several Ivy League colleges including Cornell, Columbia and Yale Universities had similar reports.

New Delhi: Brown University students were asked to evacuate the building on Sunday afternoon after the college officials received a bomb threat. After conducting a thorough search, the Brown Daily Herald, an independent student newspaper said that the Brown University and Providence Police officers found no credible evidence on Sunday night.

Aside from Brown several Ivy League colleges including Cornell, Columbia and Yale Universities had similar reports.  

“After comprehensive searches by both Brown University and Providence Police officers, the university’s Department of Public Safety issued an all-clear update for the Brown campus,” said Brian Clark, a university spokesman, Boston Herald reported. 

After the safety alert was given at 3:50 pm on Sunday afternoon students were still asked to avoid the Meeting Street near the Life Sciences Building because of “a suspicious package.”

The Boston Globe further reported that an hour later, university officials sent out a second alert that said the Life Sciences Building was not involved but to avoid “Main Green buildings, John Hay, the Rock, and List Art until further notice.”

However, by 6:15 p.m. Sunday, university operations had resumed as normal and previously evacuated buildings reopened the spokesperson was reported as saying. 

Though reports say that it is not clear whether the bomb threats are connected, searches in Cornell continued till late afternoon. Columbia University was evacuated an hour after Brown sent its first alert, reported Boston Globe. 

Yale University had received a bomb threat on Friday and after five hours of search the issue the all-clear. 

According to media reports, similar threats were received by Ohio University’s Athens campus and Miami University in Ohio last week but were deemed not credible.
