New Delhi: A video by struggling actor Ajaz Khan gave momentum to rumours that belts, shoes and purses are being made from cow leather and also are being sold openly in India.

In the video, actor can be heard saying that he is wearing a belt of Harley Davidson brand made of cow leather.

The topic is all the more important keeping in mind the present situation in the country where many incidents of cow vigilantism are bing reported.

To cross check that weather Harley Davidson is really selling belt made of cow leather, ABP News did an investigation in New Delhi, Mumbai, Agra and Kanpur.

Delhi:

In the sting operation, it becomes clear that in national capital Delhi, very easily, one can get purses, bags made of cow leather. They are as costly as Rs 17,000.

An interesting thing which revealed during the investigation is that more than cow, calf leather is popular.

Interestingly, according to import rule (2012), importing leather made of cow is not unlawful in India. However, as per the rule, the companies have to mention that from which animal's leather its product is made of.

Mumbai:

In Mumbai, in Harley Davidson showroom, we found out that the company is selling belts, jackets made of cow leather.

Kanpur & Agra

In Kanpur which is well known for its leather market, we found out that shop owners are selling leather products but not made of cow or pig leather.

Even factory owners where leather is being processed, also informed us that they have nothing to do with cow leather.

In Agra, too shop owners denied keeping cow leather.
