New refreshed models and the iconic RED Vespa will soon be coming to India

Since its entry into the Indian market Vespa has had a good hold on the premium end of the scooter market with its retro-styled scooters. These scooters go beyond the realm of practicality and instead offer performance and prestige with its timeless iconic design. The Italian scooter maker now plans to update the scooters with new colours. The analog instrument cluster is likely to switch to an analog-cum-digital unit.

The scooters are expected to be mechanically unchanged. The Vespa India portfolio consists of two engine options: a 125cc and a 150cc air-cooled single. The Vespa 125 makes 10.6PS at 7500rpm and 10.6Nm at 6000rpm while the Vespa 150 dishes out 11.6PS at 7000rpm and 11.5Nm at 5500rpm. Expect to pay a slight premium over the current Rs 71,058 to 97,372  price range.

The Vespa RED is the product of a collaboration between Vespa and RED, a charitable organisation founded by U2 lead singer Bono and activist Bobby Shriver in 2006. RED partners with global brands, which contribute up to 50 profits from RED-branded products like the iPhone 7 Red, to the Global Fund to fight endemics like AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. Till date, these donations made by RED have enabled Global Fund to help over 70 million people worldwide. Your product has to be exclusive to be chosen by RED. The Vespa 946 RED is the only automotive product till date to have that honour. For each Vespa 946 RED sold internationally, $150 is donated to the Global Fund.

While the 946 RED, a sibling of the now discontinued Emporio Armani 946, will not come to India, Vespa plans to get a RED variant for its 125 and 150cc scooters. This variant is expected to carry a premium of Rs 5,000 to 10,000 depending on the model.
