The destruction of the glacier in Joshimath has created havoc in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. A high alert has been raised in several areas including Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh after a part of Nandadevi Glacier broke on Sunday morning. While efforts are being made to shift people from low-lying areas to a safer place, neary 100-150 casualties are feared in the flash flood reported in River Dhauliganga in the Chamoli district. 


Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand government has released the help line numbers for people seeking aid. Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat in a tweet on Sunday informed that people looking for information related to the accident, can contact Disaster Operations Centre at 1070 and 9557444486.

As per the latest updates, three teams of NDRF, and separate teams of Indian Army have been sent to Chamoli. A team of 60 SDRF personnel with equipment have reached the spot while a DRDO team of snow and avalanche experts from its newly-created Defence Geo-Informatics Research Establishment would be reaching tomorrow to assess situation at site in Uttarakhand where flash flood occurred.  


Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi has approved an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the tragic avalanche caused by a Glacier breach in Chamoli, Uttarakhand. Rs 50,000 would be given to those seriously injured. State government on the other hand announced to give financial assistance of Rs 4 lakhs each to the kin of the deceased.
