New Delhi: Vehicular movement on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was restored on Sunday at around 9 am after part of the highway was blocked due to a heavy landslide in the Ramban area.
The official media handle of Jammu Kashmir police took to Twitter and said, "Traffic update at 0900 hrs Traffic restored on Jammu-Srinagar NHW."
Due to the landslide, Amarnath Yatra was halted at Yatri Niwas, Chanderkote in the Ramban district, reported news agency ANI.
News agency PTI shared the visuals of the landslide on their social media handle and captioned it, "Jammu-Srinagar National Highway blocked due to heavy landslide at T2 tunnel near Keela Morh in Ramban district."
Police had issued an advisory stating that people should avoid the route till the restoration work is completed on the stretch.
Earlier on Saturday, a landslide incident was reported in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag in which at least three people lost their lives and 17 were reported to be missing. The incident occurred just 16 kilometres from Kedarnath. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a search & rescue operation into the matter.
ANI had reported that as per the information received from the District Administration Uttarkashi, around 50 to 60 parts completely collapsed due to a massive landslide near Moldi on the Arakot-Chinva motorway in the Mori area of the district bordering Himachal Pradesh.
Prior to this, on Friday, heavy rainfall in Rudraprayag triggered another major landslide near Gaurikund on the Kedarnath Yatra route. Three shops got damaged due to the landslide and over 10 people were feared to be trapped underneath the debris.
