Read the Tata Nexon first drive review here.
Update: The Auto expo is not just an event for launches, but also for concept cars and Tata is not going to fall behind as it comes out with Nexon SUV. The vehicle was also shown at the 2014 Auto Expo and is ready to feature on the Indian roads rivaling names like Mahindra TUV 300, Brezza and Ford EcoSport. The SUV looks quite pleasing from the all the angles and would be running on the same engine as Tata Zica, but with different power output. Check out the unveiling of Tata Nexon at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo.
Tata is expected to reveal it at the upcoming 2016 Indian Auto Expo with all-new petrol and diesel engines!
Revealed at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo as a concept version, Tata Nexon has been spied for the first time. Tata has begun testing their first-ever compact crossover/SUV on-road. The vehicle will compete with Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV3OO and the upcoming compact SUV from Maruti Suzuki. There is a possibility that Tata might showcase it at the upcoming 2016 Indian Auto Expo, while launch can follow sometime later in ‘16. It is still not clear that what would be it’s official name, for the time being, let’s continue with the Nexon!
The test mule is extensively camouflaged but is expected to draw most of the design cues from the Nexon concept and the recently introduced Zica. Tata’s DesignNext design philosophy has evolved substantially with the new Zica and Nexon is likely to evolve it further! The production spec version will share the silhouette with the concept version and that will definitely make it one of the best looking sub-4m SUVs in the block. Also, Nexon’s cabin will share parts like multi-functional steering wheel, ConnectNext touchscreen infotainment system, etc with the company’s latest offerings - Zest and Zica.
In terms of engine options, reportedly Nexon will be powered by a turbocharged version of the new all-aluminum 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol motor that Zica will debut and a new 1.5-liter diesel in the Revotorq family of diesel engines, again will debut with the Zica's 1.05-liter diesel. This motor will be a lot more powerful than the 1.2-liter Revotron powering the Zest and Bolt. The diesel could deliver power in excess of 100 bhp and torque substantially more than 200 Nm, just like the Renault Duster 110PS. Transmission option could include 6-speed manual for the diesel while petrol is expected to get a 5-speed manual, while Tata may also offer AMT option. Stay tuned.
