New Delhi: Hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that a ‘grand statue’ of Subhas Chandra Bose will be installed at India Gate, his grandnephew Chandra Kumar Bose urged PM to implement Netaji’s ideology to save the nation.

While talking to ANI, Chandra Kumar Bose slammed political parties and leaders for encouraging divisive and communal politics saying it’s breaking the nation.

“We appreciate Centre’s initiative to place Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s statue at India Gate. But if you really want to honour him, implement his inclusive ideology of uniting all communities; real homage to liberated India remains incomplete,” he said.

Ahead of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s 125th birth anniversary, PM Modi tweeted saying, "I will unveil the hologram statue on 23rd January, Netaji’s birth anniversary".

“At a time when the entire nation is marking the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, I am glad to share that his grand statue, made of granite, will be installed at India Gate,” PM Modi tweeted on Friday. “This would be a symbol of India’s indebtedness to him.”

Netaji's daughter Anita Bose-Pfaff has likewise welcomed the decision calling it “a nice gesture”.

Welcoming the decision as “better late than never”, Bose-Pfaff said the announcement took her by surprise.

“I am very happy about the decision. It is a very good location. I am certainly glad that his statue would be put up at such a prominent place. What surprises me is it came all of a sudden now. One might have prepared a bit earlier, but better late than never.” Bose-Pfaff told PTI.

The dimensions of Netaji’s statue would be (28 feet)* 6 feet and the statue will be placed in the canopy and will replace the Amar Jawan Jyoti, which will be merged with the eternal flame of the National War Memorial Torch on Friday.
