New Delhi: A 3.5-year-old child died and several were injured after a building collapsed in Delhi's Paharganj area on Thursday, said Delhi Fire Department as reported by news agency ANI. A search and rescue operation is underway at the site of the incident, and seven fire tenders were rushed to the site after the fire department received a call.
"Paharganj building collapse | The 3.5-years-old child rescued from the building collapse site succumbs to his injuries. Two girls of age 1.5 years and 8 years and their 52-year-old father rescued & taken to local hospital," said official.
According to the fire department, "A house collapse call was received from the Paharganj area near Khanna market and The Vivek Hotel at 2040 hours today. So far, one three-year-old child, two girls and their father rescued from the collapsed structure."
"We are assisting the agencies conducting the rescue operation. A three-year-old child who has been rescued is in serious condition," said Divisional Warden-Paharganj, Civil Defence, Suresh Malik.
Earlier in April, atleast five labourers who were trapped after an under-construction building in Delhi's Satya Niketan area collapsed were rescued and two dead bodies have been retrieved from the debris, as reported by the news agency quoting NDRF officer Goverdhan Bairwa.
"The fifth person rescued from the debris of an under-construction building that collapsed in Satya Niketan area of Delhi, this afternoon."
Atul Garg, Director of Delhi Fire Services said, "We received a call around 1:24 pm about a house collapse in Satya Niketan building number 173 here. Six fire tenders have been rushed to the spot," as reported by news agency PTI.
The fire department said that the building which has collapsed is three-storeyed and its renovation work was going on. Teams are present on the spot for the rescue operation and efforts are on to rescue the people trapped under the debris.
"NDRF personnel rescued one person from the debris of an under-construction building that collapsed in Satya Niketan, this afternoon," as quoted by ANI.
