With the launch just a few weeks away, select dealerships in India have started accepting bookings for the 650cc twins
Everyone in India has been eagerly waiting to see the Royal Enfield 650cc twins in the flesh, and the wait will soon come to an end as select dealerships in the country have started accepting bookings for both the bikes. Customers can reserve the Interceptor 650 or Continental GT 650 for a token amount of Rs 5,000. Deliveries are expected to commence by the end of November post the official launch, which will take place on 14 November.
Both the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 have already been launched internationally at USD 5799 and USD 5999, respectively, which is roughly Rs 4.21 lakh and 4.36 lakh. While these are competitive prices abroad, sources suggest that both the bikes will be priced under Rs 3 lakh (ex-showroom) in India which should make for an excellent proposition.
Powering the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 is the same 648cc, oil-cooled, parallel-twin motor that produces peak power of 47.6PS at 7100rpm, while peak torque of 52Nm comes in at 5200rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch.
Its double-cradle frame is all-new and has been developed from the ground up in collaboration with Harris Performance. Suspension duties are handled by conventional 41mm telescopic forks up front and twin gas-charged shock absorbers at the rear, with 5-stage preload adjustment. Braking is taken care of by ABS-equipped 320mm Bybre disc brake at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear. Its 18-inch aluminium spoke wheels come shod in Pirelli SportComp tyres (100/90 section front and 130/70 section at the rear).
The Interceptor 650 will come in seven colours - black, grey, orange, red, chrome, silver and white -, while the Continental GT 650 will be offered in five colour options - Black Magic (metallic black), Ventura Blue (metallic blue), Mister Clean (chrome), Dr Mayhem (black and grey) and Ice Queen (metallic white). Once launched, the RE Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 will go up against the likes of the Harley-Davidson Street 750 (Rs 5.25 lakh) and Kawasaki Z650 priced at Rs 5.29 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
