The third-gen Cayenne is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine that can propel the SUV from 0-100kmph in 4.1 seconds
Porsche has started accepting bookings for the 2018 Cayenne Turbo across all its dealerships in India ahead of its launch in June 2018. This time around, Porsche will also bring the plug-in hybrid version of the SUV to India. However, it will be launched later in the year, probably by September. This is the first time the Cayenne E-Hybrid will come to India. Until now, the Cayenne was offered with petrol and diesel powertrains in the country.

New Cayenne Turbo available to order in India
Mumbai: Porsche Centres across India are now taking orders for the third generation of the Cayenne Turbo, which will arrive in showrooms from June 2018 onwards. With an increased output of 550 hp, the model offers a balance between the dynamism of a sports car and the comfort of a touring car, while continuing to showcase outstanding off-road capabilities. The brand’s completely redeveloped SUV also boasts intelligent lightweight construction, a new engine, and smart assistance systems.
Commenting on the arrival, Pavan Shetty, Director, Porsche India, said: “The new Cayenne Turbo represents the start of an exciting introduction phase for us, with the Cayenne and Cayenne E-Hybrid also set to arrive in showrooms later this year. The Cayenne has been one of our most popular models to-date and I am sure that the third generation, which offers greater versatility and more performance than ever before will continue the success story, starting with the Turbo derivative. It is a highly anticipated model and as such we are delighted to offer customers the opportunity to order the latest generation of Porsche’s flagship SUV in India.”
A four-litre V8 biturbo engine which delivers 550 hp and 770 Nm of torque, propels the Turbo to 100 km/h from a complete standstill in just 4.1 seconds (3.9 seconds with Sports Chrono) – surpassing even the previous Cayenne Turbo S in this respect. The Cayenne Turbo reaches a top speed of 286 km/h and as is characteristic for the new generation of engines, the exhaust turbochargers are arranged inside the cylinder V, in the “central turbo layout”. The shortened exhaust branches between the combustion chambers and the turbochargers mean that the engine is especially responsive, while the central turbo layout results in significantly improved power delivery. Another advantage is the compact construction of the engine allowing for a lowered engine mounting position, which has a positive effect on driving dynamics: a lowered centre of gravity and improved cornering precision.
The new Cayenne Turbo is the first SUV to have an adaptive roof spoiler as a component of its active aerodynamics. Depending on the position of the spoiler, this optimises efficiency, increases downforce on the rear axle and, in the airbrake position, shortens the braking distance needed from higher speeds. As a result, at full braking from 250 km/h, the SUV comes to a stop up to two metres earlier. The aerodynamic system therefore complements the new Porsche Surface Coated Brakes (PSCB), which are standard.
Rear-axle steering taken from the 911, a new three-chamber air suspension and active roll stabilisation also add to the sportier driving performance, enhanced safety and driving comfort of the Turbo. Going off-road is also now easier, with five pre-programmed drive and chassis modes available, depending on the terrain.
Visually, the Cayenne Turbo has an appearance that is both dominant and independent. A unique front end with LED headlights, standard 21-inch Turbo wheels, in widened wheel arches with painted trims, and twin tailpipes specific to the Turbo characterise the top-of-the-range model. Inside, virtually all the vehicle functions of the fully networked SUV can be displayed and operated using the high-resolution display and touchscreen of the Porsche Advanced Cockpit. Among them, for example, is the BOSE® Surround Sound System with 710 watts, fitted as standard. Inside, 18-way sport seats, integrated headrests and the multifunction sports steering wheel in an exclusive Turbo design reflect the model’s sports car roots.
