New Delhi: Congress leader KC Venugopal on Thursday reacted after the leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) saying, "Horrible ‘raj’ going on in the country. There are parliamentary systems. We're law-abiding citizens, but when parliament's in session & LOP (Mallikarjun Kharge) is participating in a debate, ED is summoning him at 12:30, what’s the point?"

"We're not scared, we will fight it out, we're not cowards. Tomorrow's protest is on price rise & unemployment. We will do it all over India & in parliament," said Venugopal while talking to the media.

While speaking on the floor of Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Mallikarjun Kharge informed the house that he has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

“I received ED summon, they called me at 12.30 pm. I want to abide by law, but is it right for them to summon when Parliament is in session? Is it right for the Police to gherao residences of Sonia Gandhi & Rahul Gandhi? They are doing it purposely to afraid us (Congress). We won’t be scared, we’ll fight,” Kharge said.

Meanwhile, Congress MP and senior leader Digvijaya Singh has also reacted sharply to ED's action and said, "It has never happened in the history of democracy that a Leader of Opposition is summoned by a probe agency when the Parliament session is underway. If Mallikarjun Kharge had to be summoned it could've been done before 11am or after 5pm. Why's Modi ji so scared?"

In response to Kharge's comment, Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal said the Centre has nothing to do with it.

“The government does not interfere in the work of the law enforcement authorities. Perhaps during their tenure, when their government was there, they might be interfering,” Goyal said.
