New Delhi: SsangYong has revealed the final concept of the upcoming 2017 Rexton (codenamed Y400) at the ongoing 2017 Paris Motor Show. The concept is christened the ‘LIV-2’ concept which, according to the South Korean automaker, is an abbreviation of 'Limitless Interface Vehicle'.

The LIV-2 is an iteration of the LIV-1 concept, which was showcased at the Seoul Motor Show in 2013, and is a good indication of how the all-new Rexton will look like. The Y400 – aka the 2017 Rexton – will be launched next year in the European market, while its Indian debut is likely to happen in early 2018.

According to SsangYong, the LIV-2 concept’s styling is inspired by the ‘Dignified Motion’ of SsangYong’s design language – Nature-born 3 Motion. In simple terms, the vehicle gets a lot of inspiration from the Tivoli compact SUV, with elements such as the grille and the character lines. When it comes to styling, the SUV is not even remotely related to the current, over-a-decade-old Rexton. The Tivoli was supposed to enter India this year and was also showcased at the 2016 Indian auto expo. However, as of now, the plans have reportedly been shelved for a couple of years.

Dimensions

  • Length: 4,850mm

  • Width: 1,960mm

  • Height: 1,800mm

  • Wheelbase: 2,865mm

As is the case with the exterior, the interiors are also fresh and new. The LIV-2 concept – and therefore the 2017 Rexton – comes with a 9.2-inch infotainment system screen at the centre and a 10.1-inch monitor at the back of each front headrest (for rear entertainment). The infotainment system will come with support for both Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto, along with Wi-Fi mirroring for devices. Safety equipment on board includes a nine-airbags system, emergency braking system and a host of other features.

Mechanically, the 2017 Rexton will come with two engine options – 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo petrol – like the LIV-2 concept. The diesel will generate 181PS and 420Nm, while the petrol will put out 225PS and 350Nm. In terms of transmission, the diesel motor will offer seven-speed automatic and the petrol one will come with six-speed automatic as an option. However, both the engines will come standard with a six-speed manual.
