New Delhi: The Supreme Court judge BR Gavai recused himself from hearing the plea filed by former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh who sought transfer of of all departmental inquiries against him to an independent agency outside Maharashtra.
Alleging a "witch-hunt" against him, the former Mumbai top cop moved the Supreme Court again, seeking a probe into an alleged 'criminal conspiracy to frame him' and said that what is happening in Maharashtra is nothing but a 'witch-hunt'.
In his plea before the Supreme Court, Param Bir Singh alleged that he is being "threatened" with multiple inquiries for not withdrawing his allegations of corruption and extortion against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
Singh has requested the top court that all the enquiries against him be transferred to other state, outside Maharashtra, and to an independent agency like CBI.
This was the second time that the Supreme Court refused to entertain the plea of former Mumbai Police chief Param Bir Singh.
Earlier this year in March, the apex court had refused to entertain the plea of former Mumbai Police chief Param Bir Singh seeking CBI investigation in the alleged corrupt malpractices of Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh and asked him to approach the High Court. The top court asked him to approach the Bombay High Court following which, Singh Withdrew the petition.
Later, during the hearing in Bombay HC, division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G S Kulkarni in stern remarks, asked him why he did not lodge a police complaint if he was aware of an alleged wrongdoing being committed by the minister.
