A 24-year-old man hailing from Odisha, slit his own throat with a blade after he lost in an online game. The incident occurred in Jereng village in Jarpada police station area on Friday evening. The man has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Nayak, and is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital in Cuttack. 


According to police officials, he was playing a mobile game and lost thrice which led him to slit his throat. Following this, his parents immediately rushed him to Angul government hospital from where he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. His condition is stated to be serious, PTI reported. 


In 2022, a 13-year-old boy allegedly died by suicide after losing Rs 40,000 in online game in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur. The police recovered a suicide note in which the boy had apologised to his parents for spending Rs 40,000 from his monther's bank account on a game called 'Free Fire.'  


Another 12-year-old boy took the extreme step in 2022 in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district after his father took away his phone as the boy was addicted to playing the' Free Fire' game, Hindustan Times reported. 


In another similar incident that last year, a 37-year-old Karnataka man who worked in a real estate firm in Bengaluru allegedly died by suicide after suffering a loss of Rs 65 lakh.  


The man identified as Vijith Shantarama Hegade was reportedly addicted to online games and had made money through them, but he had lost it all and took loans of Rs 65 lakh. The details were revealed in a purported suicide note that he had left behind, Indian Express reported.


He had left his parent's home to return to his home in Uttara Kannada district, Sirsi but when his wife told his parents he had not returned home, they approached the Sirsi Rural police. His body was found in the forest behind his house after the police managed to track his mobile phone.
