Witnessing continuous surge in number of COVID-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh, the authorities have resorted to strict measures in order to control the spread of deadly virus. As per the latest development,  the Uttar Pradesh government has imposed a night curfew in Prayagraj.


The latest order from the state administration states that the night curfew will come into effect from today from 10 pm to 8 am till further notice. The District Magistrate informed that essential services will be exempted from the curfew.

Similar restrictions have been imposed in other cities including Varanasi, Lucknow and Kanpur.


The Kanpur District Magistrate on Wednesday issued an official order stating, "Night curfew to be imposed in Kanpur and Varanasi. The curfew would come into force in Kanpur from 10 PM to 6 AM on April 8, to continue till April 30."


In Lucknow, the nigh curfew will remain in effect between 9 pm and 6 am. The Lucknow District Magistrate informed that all government, non-government or privately managed schools, colleges and educational institutions and coaching institutes shall remain shut with immediate effect for the control of Covid-19 infection till April 15, 2021. However, during this time, the supply of fruits, vegetables, milk, LPG, petrol-diesel and medicine will continue as usual.

In Varanasi, the night curfew would come into force from 9 PM today. Varanasi Commissioner of Police in the order stated that Varanasi will observe a week-long curfew starting from April 8.


Uttar Pradesh in the past 24 hours reported 4,689 COVID-19 cases taking the total number of active cases in the state to 27,509. The death toll in Uttar Pradesh stands at 8,924 with 30 deaths on Wednesday.
