In an interview with ABP News, Shivpal spoke of strengthening the party with which he is associated.
“Nayi party toh ho hi gayi hai..I am working in my constituency, will strengthen the party after elections,” he said without clarifying which specific party.
Throwing a fresh challenge to Akhilesh Yadav, his sidelined uncle Shivpal had announced that he will float a party after election results are out on March 11 and threatened to back "rebel" candidates.
"You make the government, we will make a new party," Shivpal said on Tuesday after filing his nomination papers for Jaswantnagar seat on SP ticket drawing a sharp retort from his nephew and new party chief Akhilesh who said in Etah that those working against the its interest will not be spared.
The senior Samajwadi Party leader not only announced that he would form a new party but went a step ahead by declaring his support to those who were denied party tickets by Akhilesh and were contesting as "rebels".
Talking about in whose favour the Uttar Pradesh elections will move towards, he said, “It will be the decision of the electorate; I will accept whatever the mandate we receive,” he added.
Shivpal's assertion, political analysts claim, could go against the SP-Congress combine, which has been hoping for a solid consolidation of Muslim voters in its favour.
“Survey says Congress doesn't deserve more than four seats. It is a party which cannot be trusted upon. We believed in maintaining distance from Congress and BJP,” he said.
Shivpal said if given a chance, he will support SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav's younger daughter-in-law Aparna Yadav, who is contesting from Lucknow Cantonment Assembly seat.
