  • Will be available with both manual and automatic transmission options with both engines.
  • Will be offered in three variants: LXI, VXI and ZXI (New).
  • LXI variant will get 1.0-litre engine only, ZXI will get 1.2-litre engine only.
  • The 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will be launched on 23 January 2019.
  • Possibly based on Heartect platform, same wheelbase as Ignis.

The new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R was recently spied inside out, revealing important details about the completely redesigned model. And now, the specifications and variant details of the 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R have leaked ahead of its scheduled launch on 23 January 2019. Here’s how Maruti has packaged the 2019 hatchback.

Variants

The new WagonR will be available in three variants: L, V and Z. Variant-wise feature details are still not out, but spy images reveal that the top-spec WagonR will get a touchscreen infotainment system and rear parking sensors. The older model was available in L, V and V+ variants. While the L and V variants were those of the standard WagonR, Stingray was later made a part of the WagonR range, and was turned into V+ variant.

The L and V variants of the new WagonR will be available with 1.0-litre petrol engine. The V variant will also be available with the 1.2-litre engine. The Z variant of the new WagonR, on the other hand, will be available with the 1.2-litre engine only. While a manual transmission will be on offer on all variants with both engines, an AMT transmission will be on offer on V and Z variants only, but with both the engines.

The new-gen model is longer, wider and taller than even the outgoing top-spec VXI+ Wagon R, which was previously known as the Stingray and was in fact, longer than lower variants. There’s a significant increment in wheelbase and overall width compared to the previous model. In fact, the wheelbase is identical to the Ignis, indicating that the new Wagon R might be based on the same Heartect platform. The Heartect platform also underpins the Swift, Dzire, Ertiga and the Baleno.

The Wagon R, for the first time, will be offered with multiple engine options. It will carry forward the existing 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine and will borrow the 1.2-litre 4-cyl engine from the Swift. The 1.2-litre engine is also available in cars like the Dzire, Ignis and the Baleno. Thanks to the 1.2-litre engine, it will become the most powerful WagonR available in India yet.

The outgoing model is priced from Rs 4.15 lakh to Rs 5.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).  While the 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R range is expected to begin around the same price point, the prices of the variants with the bigger engine might go up slightly. It will renew its rivalry with the recently relaunched Hyundai Santro along with Datsun GO and Tata Tiago
