The new-gen Thar has been spied while undergoing emission testing. The new set of spy shots reveal details of the upcoming SUV’s interiors, which look more premium than before.

It gets a new dashboard which looks similar to that of the current Thar as far as the layout is concerned. The central console has an empty spot for an infotainment system fitment, along with circular AC vents and controls for the same. The new Thar is expected to get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its highest variants.

The new Thar also gets a new steering which is borrowed from the TUV300. It features music system controls on the left spoke, while the right spoke is left blank. The instrument cluster is also updated and gets a larger MID flanked by two dials. Moreover, in contrast to its predecessor, the new SUV will also be equipped with power windows. Mahindra will offer an all-black cabin on the new SUV, instead of the dual-tone black-biege interior in the outgoing model.

Although the second row of seats are not visible in the spy shots, the Thar is expected to get front facing seats this time, at least in the hardtop version. The current Thar is available with side facing seats only. Also on offer on the hardtop version will be roll-down windows for the second row. We say so as a total of four power window switches are visible in the picture.

As far as the features are concerned, the new Thar is expected to get basic safety tech as standard including dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, high speed alert system and driver and co-driver seat belt reminder.

Talking about the exterior, the new Thar carries forward the classic Jeep CJ-like front profile. It gets circular headlamps and tail lamps just like the outgoing model and the Wrangler. The new Thar will feature plastic front and rear bumpers in order to be compliant with upcoming pedestrian safety norms.

The second-gen Thar is expected to be powered by a new 2.0-litre BS6 diesel engine coupled to a 6-speed MT. It will also feature a 4WD option with a low-range gearbox, like the current model.

The new Thar is expected make its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo followed by a launch soon after. It is expected to be priced at a premium over the current model, which is on sale for Rs 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
